Birthday Card 🎂.
One of the best parts of my birthday every year is the birthday card I receive from my older brother, Jerry. Without fail, no matter where he is or what he is doing, he sends the most beautiful card with a heartfelt handwritten note about a week in advance (asking me daily if I have received it 😁).
He is steadily recovering from a heart attack and stroke, which makes it difficult for him to write. So I had no expectations for a card this year. But lo and behold, when I got the mail yesterday (yes, a week before my birthday), there it was.
I almost didn’t want to open it. I was struck with the enormity of how much effort this must have taken. And I sat in my car and held this precious gift for quite some time. I knew it wouldn’t have the long handwritten note I have grown accustomed to. But I also knew it would say something that would both break and warm my heart.
I didn’t want to ruin the moment.
Finally, I opened the card. And I read this note:
“I miss you, and you are missed. Best sis next (unclear).”
But you get the idea.
What have I done to deserve so much love and support in this life?
Maybe the best gift of all is to enjoy the purity of love just as it is.
I savored the message and the moment.
My birthday will be complete because I have the love of my family and friends.
And a yearly card that transcends words.
Thank you all for making this journey around the sun so meaningful.
I am filled with gratitude.
Say it like it is,
Donna ⭐
